Backpacker
To everyone who is waiting to pack up and leave......no questions asked!!
Hi all
I guess I belong to that category of people for whom travelling, it does not matter where, is a way of life. It denotes to me, a sense of freedom and liberation from the established norms of a society that does not encourage and even looks down upon their women who dare to venture away from the protective folds of their family. India is a beautiful country, people are beautiful and accomodating, yet, there is some unwritten rule against single women wandering about the countryside, hitching rides and sleeping at bus/train stations.
What began as a journey of necessity, soon turned into a passion for me. Despite its stand against single women travellers, I love my country, for had I not known the suffocation of restrictions, would I have loved the freedom?
As an Indian woman who backpacked across the country alone, I have come across many incidents that have instilled confidence in me and now I am waiting to explore the world.
I have completed a book, tentatively titled "The Backpacker" on a woman's (mine) lone journey in her own beautiful country...India, the trials and errors and of learning and enjoying, of meeting new people, seeing places, about the charecter of the country........Wish me luck guys.
I do hope by reading my blogs, I have managed to invite atleast ONE single Indian woman to pack her bags on a long, solo journey......
The Backpacker
